Community-Led Effective Parenting Initiatives

These Effective Parenting Initiatives are led by representatives from various concerned sectors of the community, such as community-based parenting organizations, schools, churches, hospitals, child care centers, as well as representatives from government offices  and agencies.

Effective Parenting Councils composed of representatives from these various stakeholder groups assume leadership, coordination and quality control roles.

The first of this type of Community-Led Effective Parenting Initiative is being developed and implemented in Los Angeles, the home of NEPI’s host organization, the 34-year old Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC).  NEPI and CICC are the lead organizations.  All of the Partnering organizations and Effective Parenting Advisory Council members are required to be Affiliated Organization members of NEPI, thereby providing them with the many benefits of these memberships, as well as opening up opportunities for the utilizing the NEPI Parent and Professional memberships as part of the outreach activities of the Initiative.

This pioneering initiative is being referred to as The Uniting Los Angeles for Effective Parenting Project.  It is conceived of as at least a five year undertaking, beginning in January 2008.  It can serve as a model for other communities, states, counties and cities.
